Decks for Halloween Readings?

Posted on September 22, 2026September 21, 2026

I’m having a conundrum about which decks to take with me for Halloween readings this year. In the past I’ve used Patrick Valenza’s Trionfi Della Luna in a negative-blue colorway (cute and spooky), The Grateful Dead Tarot by Erin Cadigan and Elizabeth Jezorski (skeletons, of course!), and Tarot of the Sweet Twilight by Cristina Benintende (a complicated mix of spooky, sweet, sad, and funny).

But unfortunately, all of these are currently or soon-to-be out of print, and I’m not big on backup copies, so I don’t want to make these out in public anymore. What to do? Find some substitutes.

Which 3 of these would you take to a Halloween reading event?

Antique Anatomy Tarot by Claire Goodchild, Abrams, 2019 (there are multiple publications, including some independent printings)

Albano-Waite Tarot, recolored by Frankie Albano, originally published by Tarot Productions, 1968. Currently available from U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

Blood Moon Tarot by Sam Guay, US Games Systems, Inc., 2026 Originally self-published by the artist (2021?)

Modern Goth Tarot, illustrated by Natalie Foss, Skittledog Press, 2024

The Nightmare Before Christmas Tarot, illustrated by Abigail Larson, Insight Editions, 2020

Santa Muerte Tarot (mini), by Fabio Listrani, Lo Scarabeo, 2022

#TopTenPips : A (mostly) modern review

I like weird pips, and I cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny that when a deck presents asymmetrical pips and some unexpected shapes you get… Sorry about that – just seeing if anyone’s reading the blog. But I do like weird pips: unusual patterns that differ from the traditional…
